How Credits Work

Free layer: sign in, then check in once a day

Backgroundcanvas is a credit meter, not an unlimited free editor. You can open every public tool without paying. A job that calls the model deducts credits from your balance. New accounts start at zero. The free path is: create an account, open daily check-in, and claim the day’s reward. The default reward is 2 credits per calendar day. You cannot stack two check-ins on the same date. Unused check-in credits stay in the same wallet as purchased credits.

Two credits is enough to try two cleanup jobs (or one job and a retry) if each tool costs 1 credit. It is not a studio quota. If you list 40 SKUs or batch a wedding gallery, you will hit the wall the same day. That is the split: check-in is for learning the compare slider; packs are for production volume. HD download still needs a successful job. We do not advertise a fake “unlimited free” tier.

Credits per cleanup job

Cleanup tools ship at 1 credit per successful job: watermark, text, emoji, background, and outpaint. The editor reads the same numbers you see here. If those costs change in production, refresh this page. Failed jobs that already deducted credits are refunded by the same ledger that charged you.

Generate tools use the model card, not a hidden multiplier

Text-to-image and image-to-image charge credits per image from the selected model, times how many images you request. The generate button shows that number before you submit. If the model is set to 1, one image costs 1 credit. A four-image batch costs four. We do not add a second fee for download. If the generate job fails after deduction, the refund path returns the credits so a failed job does not keep the charge.

Paid layer: credit packs

When check-in is not enough, buy a pack on the pricing page. Checkout is Stripe. Pack names, credit counts, and USD prices are live catalog data — they are not hard-coded here so this page cannot drift from what you actually pay. Credits from a pack are valid for 1 month from the date they are added. Older batches can expire while a newer pack is still valid; the wallet spends batches according to the credit service, not a single “forever” pile.

There is no separate “Pro mode” fee on top of credits for the public cleanup tools. Manual brush and auto use the same per-job cost. Insufficient balance returns HTTP 402 with the required credits and your current balance. That is the same message the editor shows before you wait on a failed render.

Credits are valid for 1 month from the date of purchase.

File limits that still apply when you have credits

Credits do not raise the upload cap. Cleanup and cutout still accept JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF, 10MB max, 6000×6000 px on the long edge. A typical 2400 px JPEG under 4MB usually returns in under 60 seconds. A file near 10MB can take longer and may need a second brush pass. WhatsApp forwards at a few hundred pixels will still look soft after a paid job. Credits buy a model pass, not extra pixels that were never in the file.

When a job fails, and when we will not run it

If the model errors after we deducted credits, the task record is aligned with a refund: you should see the credits back in the nav balance after refresh. If your balance was already too low, we do not start the job. We also will not invent a success rate. Skip uploads you do not have rights to edit. Clearing your own overlay is a normal credit spend. Clearing someone else’s copyrighted mark is not a billing issue — it is a rights issue, and the tool will not make it legal.

How to estimate a batch before you buy

Count jobs, not files. A listing hero that needs cutout then a typed-price cleanup is two credits if both tools cost 1. A ten-SKU drop with one cutout each is ten credits, plus extras if you retry hair edges. Check-in (2/day) covers a test pair. A 40-image catalog week is a pack, not a month of check-ins. Keep a simple sheet: SKU, tool, retries. That estimate will match the meter better than guessing from a screenshot of someone else’s balance.
