Thrift Listing Photos: Erase Handwritten Price Tags Before You Post
Keep the jacket honest, clear burned-in dollar amounts and sold stamps, then letter today's price for Instagram and Facebook Marketplace.

The Marketplace tile still shows last week's $12
Facebook Marketplace and Instagram shoppers still message the old sticky when the only hero JPEG has "$12" or "SOLD" written across the denim. Reshooting on a clean rack is ideal. Reality is one phone still from the bin, already shared in staff chat, while the item is still on the floor at $18. The job is to keep the garment honest, erase burned-in prices and sold stamps, and export a blank master you can letter again for Marketplace, Instagram, and the shop window screen. This pass is text removal — not a Depop sticker pass, and not inventing a better condition grade.
Brush the dollars; leave the fabric
Upload the existing still. Brush only the typed or handwritten overlay — dollar amounts, "AS IS," a date from the markdown cart — and let reconstruction fill the jacket, knit, or ceramic behind the type. Do not brush stains you will disclose. Do not invent a missing button. If a soft thrift-chain logo is logo-shaped rather than lettering, leave it or send that one mark to watermark removal; this article stays on price text. Zoom to 100% on the former numbers. You want the denim grain to match, not a blurred rectangle where $8 used to sit. Watch for stacked type: a late SOLD stamp over an older price often leaves a double ghost if you only paint the top line.
Before
After
Marketplace crop versus the grid
Marketplace heroes are often square or near-square. Instagram wants 4:5 and square. Export both from the same cleaned master. Uploads here accept JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF up to 10MB and 6000×6000 px. A 2400 px JPEG under 4MB typically returns in under 60 seconds. Export at least 1080 px on the short edge so zoom holds on mobile. Skip motion-blurred bin dumps. Skip 400 px WhatsApp forwards. Letter today's price in the listing field or caption, not back into the JPEG, so a markdown does not force another erase.
Honesty and rights
Only edit photos of inventory you own and are selling. Clearing your own sticky is shop ops. Lifting another seller's listing still is not — and local buyers will notice when the item looks different at pickup. Do not paint out a rip you will ship. Name files `denim-jacket-clean.jpg` versus `denim-jacket-as-shot.jpg` so a dispute has an original.
When a new still is cheaper
A price sticker covering most of the label, heavy JPEG blocking, or a crumpled sticky on wet leather are not good reconstruction jobs — peel the tag, wipe, shoot again. Credits spent inventing a clean lapel you could photograph in twenty seconds are wasted.
When the bin still has the jacket and the tile still shows last week's $12, clear the overlay, export a square, and post a price that matches the sticker on the hanger.
